It was not an easy announcement for her. Katharina Gutensohn communicated ending her active career it in the Austria House in Whistler, "Those were my last Olympic Games."

She shed a few tears after having finished on 26th in the Ski Cross Olympic debut at Cypress Mountain. The following day she publicized with a heavy heart the end of her remarkable career.

As a speed specialist of the German Ski Federation Katharina Gutensohn took part four times in the Olympic Games, 1992, 1994 and 1998. Then her partner revealed to her ski cross.

"It was a great phase of my career," said Gutensohn, "and it was great fun to be in this group. I would like to express my gratitude to and I wish all the best."

Katharina Gutensohn made a World Cup debut on 17th December 1982 in slalom in Piancavallo. Until 1989 she was racing for Austria in the Alpine World Cup and gained in total eight World Cup victories (four as Austrian and four as German). In 1985 Gutensohn won silver at the World Championships, in 1990 she dominated the downhill World Cup.

In ski cross she was successful right from the beginning. She won a World Cup race in Grindelwald 2005 and in 2009 in Meiringen. In 2009 season she was ranked second in the overall World Cup Ski Cross.
