Final countdown for Deer Valley 2011

The Final Inspection for the 2011 FIS Freestyle World Ski Championships, which brought together the host broadcaster, the organizing committee and FIS, to review the final details occurred last week in Park City Utah.

The 13th FIS World Championships in Freestyle Skiing will be staged at the two adjoining Park City ski resorts of Deer Valley Resort and Park City Mountain Resort. Deer Valley Resort, which also held the 2003 FIS Freestyle World Ski Championships, will stage the mogul, dual mogul and aerial events on the 2002 Olympic Winter Games courses. In addition, ending in the same combined finish area will be the newest Olympic ski event and the 4th World Championship staging of ski cross. The 2010 Olympic course designer Jeff Ihaksi (CAN) will be designing a unique and testing course.

The ‘Champion' mogul course is one of the most challenging slopes on the World Cup tour, with every one of the past 3 Olympic champions having made it on the World Cup mogul podium in Deer Valley. FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup events have been staged annually since 2000 in Deer Valley, except when the title events took place there in 2002 (OWG) and 2003 (WSC).

Park City Mountain Resort will stage the ski halfpipe on their famous ‘Eagle Superpipe,' one of the largest in North America, which is the same slope and halfpipe that was used for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games.

Park City will certainly be the place to be from 2nd -5th February 2011. Nearly 300 competitors from 35 nations are expected to attend.
