Kearney and Kingsbury up to their old tricks

LAKE PLACID, USA, 18 JAN 2013 – Hannah Kearney returned from injury and all was right in the universe again, as she and her Canadian counterpart on the men's side Mikael Kingsbury recreated a scene seen so often on the FIS Freestyle World Cup moguls podium over the last couple of years, with these two gifted athletes standing at the top.

Kearney has been out of competition since badly injuring her ribs and causing some internal damage during a crash in training in October. She missed the first two World Cup events of the season, but looked to be back in top form on Thursday, skiing fast, smooth, and going huge on her top jump backflip to earn a score of 25.53. While her teammate Heather Mcphie still leads the overall moguls standings, Kearney's performance on her first competition back sent a statement that that lead likely won't last for long.

“Four months ago I was getting airlifted off of a glacier and I spent five days in the hospital, so this is way better,” said Kearney following her win, “I'm thrilled to have skied well here and I'm really looking forward to Calgary and Deer Valley, because those are two of my favorite courses.”

Nikola Sudova (UKR) scored 22.36 and took 2nd place with an excellent run that simply lacked the difficulty exhibited by Kearney. Britney Cox (AUS) earned a score of 21.62 and 3rd place for her efforts.

On the men's side, Mikael Kingsbury's combination of speed, control, and massive technical airs make him nearly untouchable when he is on his game. And on Saturday, he was most certainly on his game, with clean landings and a smooth line through the bumps. His score of 27.05 outpaced runner up Patrick Daneen's 25.71, despite Daneen throwing what had to be the biggest air of the day with his bottom jump backflip. Daneen's American teammate Dylan Walczyk rounded out the podium with a 23.57.
